About LCJ

Born in Boston, Massachusetts, Leon Clayton Jr. hints LCJ started participating in the performing arts early in age. His childhood was surrounded by theater, festival performances, education, and music. Once hip hop culture took over his generation, LCJ began evolving into hip hop’s best on the B-Boy scene. Only six years old performing in local bars and talent shows, at the age of twelve, was an official member of Chapter 7 of Zulu Nation in the Columbian Point Projects. At 14, he joined forces with the Unique Dominoes Jr. on Humboldt Ave. During that golden era,  picked up a spray paint can and started decorating the urban metropolitan. Forming graffiti crews from all neighborhoods uniting gang ties through this new form of expression. Later he, became a DJ and worn his nature talent of bringing people together while playing records at parties.

 The Road to Music

Hip-hop knows LCJ very well. Once he wrote his first rap he never left it behind. Living in the inner cities of Roxbury, MA, Bronx, NY, Newark, NJ, Orlando, FL. music was the key to the outer world that only existed in the movies and books. Witnessing rapp outside on the streets as far back as the age of eight, His earliest professional recording was with the MCA rap crew,  The group was nominated for a Boston Music Award. He performed on “Live Music Week” WERS 88.9fm (Emerson College) for three years consecutively. During the early 90’s opened up for A Tribe Called Quest, Arrested Development,  Organize Kufusion, Master Ace and more. The group produced a Mixtape and sold it out of non-record stores creating new outlets for every artist at a time when there very little resources was provided towards the Underground Hip-Hop Scene. Soon LCJ was chosen out of many other artists (Swizz Chris) to perform with a live jazz/hip hop band for a European tour as a solo artist. After his return as a solo artist, went back to tour Europe with his original rap group. (Booklet of all tours and album releases available upon request.) They started with an Underground hit, involving him in projects that have obtained national distribution, played on over 150+ radio stations across the nation. The single “My Crew” achieved heavy rotation while climbing on several music charts and publications.
Performing intensely all over the Bay Area while selling the product, “The Stash”, performing at MILK, Galia, Last Day Salon, Oakland Black Box, La Pena, Blake’s,  Glass Kat, Velvet Lounge, Royal, The Agenda Lounge, Tongue n Groove, and many more. LCJ became a public figure to local performers and promoters alike.
LCJ recorded an album (untitled) at Zone Studios while performing at the Ivy Room every Thursday at Showtime @ 11 with True Justice (All Purpose DJs)  at 858 San Pablo/Solano Ave, Albany, CA. After the Ivy Room was sold, LCJ and True Justice became inseparable and formed the act known as The MC and the DJ.
Looking for a new venue to continue a weekly performance outlet, LCJ and partner True Justice obtained a weekly night at Club Six in San Francisco. Providing a platform for local and well known acts to promote and perform in front of a friendly consumer environment. Now going on over a year of weekly performances, other venues have took interest in bringing The MC and The DJ into their place of business i.e. Club Anton & 2232 MLK. As a result obtained two weekly nights ourselves and in return give local DJs their own night and venue to perform every week while attracting the Radio Station KPFA 94.1fm.
Respectively gained a live radio show on KPFA 94.1fm every last Saturday of the month from the times of 2am-5am. Currently recording an album with Bay City Records, performing every Wednesday at Club Six in San Francisco and every Thursday at Club Anton in Jack London Square.
